How do I transfer money with Pay Friends?
To use Pay with Friends, simply log into your chime account and select the Move Money tab. Click the transfers dropdown and select “Pay Friends.” You will then be prompted to enter in either the receiver's name, nickname, phone number or email or you can select them from your contacts. After selecting the Chime member you wish to send money to, confirm by tapping the circle to the right of the contact, then enter the amount to send to the recipient, then the reason you're paying a friend. Before you send the money, you will have to confirm the amount and as well as the member.
If you are using app version 3.4 or later, you can now use Pay Friends to pay money to non Chime members. For non-Chime members, you’ll have the option to pay via Venmo!
How to Use Pay Friends to Send Money to a Non-Chime Member:
- Select Pay Friends from the home screen (iOS only) or in Move Money
- Search for friend in contacts
- Enter the payment amount and any notes
- Select Pay with Venmo
- Venmo app will launch for member to complete payment
- If the member does not have a Venmo account he will need to open one to make a payment
- If the member’s Venmo account is not connected Chime, their Chime balance will not be affected (payment will be pulled from the bank they have linked).
What are the transfer limits for Pay Friends?
You can transfer up to $2,000.00 or perform a total of 15 transfers per calendar month.
What is a Chime Nickname?
A Chime Nickname makes it even easier to send and receive money between Chime members with Pay Anyone. Think of it as a username or handle associated with your account. If someone wants to send you money, you can share your Chime Nickname with them and they can enter into the recipient's field.
You can create your Chime Nickname at any time by visiting Pay Anyone under Move Money in the Chime app or website.
How long does it take for a Pay Friends transfer to post?
If you are transferring money to/from someone who is a Chime member, transfers will be processed immediately. If you are transferring money to someone via Venmo, transferring money from a Venmo balance to a bank account usually takes 1–2 business days.
What happens if I accidentally transfer money to the wrong person?
Prior to sending a Friend Transfer, you will be prompted to confirm the transaction. Once the Friends Transfer is sent, it cannot be canceled or reversed. It is the sender’s responsibility to ensure the information is accurate prior to confirming the Friend Transfer request.
