Using Android Pay

NOTE: You’ll need to turn on NFC to pay with contactless terminals. Check to see if NFC is turned on in your phone’s settings app.

  1. Unlock your phone.
You don’t need to open the Android Pay app to make a payment, but you do need to have your phone screen on and your phone unlocked.

  2. Hold the back of your phone close to the payment terminal for a few seconds.
If Android Pay sends the payment information, you see a green checkmark.

If you don’t see a green checkmark:

Make sure your NFC settings are turned on.
Try holding your phone a different way. Your NFC antenna could be near the top or bottom of your device.
Hold your phone closer to the terminal.
Hold your phone for a few extra seconds.

If you do see a check mark but the cashier says that the payment didn’t work:

Double-check that the store accepts mobile payments.
Make sure that your card information in Android Pay is up-to-date.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions.
When the payment goes through, follow the same instructions as you do when you swipe your card.

Debit cards: Enter the PIN that you set up with your bank. This is different from the PIN that you use to unlock your device.

Credit cards: For larger transactions, sign the receipt or provide a signature in the designated area on the terminal.

Using Samsung Pay

  2. Swipe to the desired card.
  3. To verify your identity, place your finger on the Home button.
To use your Samsung Pay PIN, touch PIN. Then, enter your four-digit PIN.
  4. To make the payment, place the back of your device on the card or on the NFC reader on the payment terminal.
  5. If necessary, complete the transaction on the payment terminal.
For example, if you are using a debit card, you are still required to enter your Personal Identification Number (PIN). Some merchants or terminals may prompt you to verify that the total charges are correct, while others require a signature.
